Amtrak has completed a $3.5 million update of Huntingdon Station (HGD) in Pennsylvania, which involved improving accessibility and customer amenities.
Improvements included a new ADA-compliant boarding platform and signage, passenger shelter, pedestrian crossing, upgraded lighting and electrical systems, and enhanced drainage and stormwater management.
“Every customer deserves a station experience that is safe, accessible and comfortable,” said Amtrak Vice President of Accessibility David Handera in a press release. “The improvements at Huntingdon Station make it easier for passengers of all abilities to access our service, whether they are using mobility devices, traveling with strollers or navigating the station with luggage.”
The improvements are part of Amtrak's system-wide program to modernize stations and increase accessibility across its network.
Located about halfway between Harrisburg and Pittsburgh, HGD is served by Amtrak's Pennsylvanian route, which is financed primarily through funds from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
