Yesterday, New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced that underpinning for the Corbin Building and the foundation for the Fulton Street Transit Center are complete.
The work marks a milestone in the $1.4 billion project designed to connect five subway stations and 10 subway lines to improve access for more than 300,000 passengers that travel through the transit hub in lower Manhattan daily, MTA officials said in a prepared statement.
Funded primarily with federal dollars, the project remains on schedule and is expected to be completed in 2014, MTA said.
The project is designed to improve street-level access and visibility, create an underground link to the renovated Corbin Building and provide more than 25,000 square feet of retail space.
