The Utah Transit Authority logged lower ridership on its TRAX light-rail network in 2025, at nearly 13 million rides, down from 13.5 million in 2024.

Ridership on the FrontRunner commuter-rail line topped 4 million rides for the second year in a row, while the S-Line streetcar logged 457,000 rides for the year.

The UTA achievements last year included the March opening of the South Jordon Downtown Station on the TRAX Red Line, agency officials said in a press release. The station was built to accommodate population growth and as a direct access point for the Ballpark at America First Square, a Minor League Baseball stadium that opened in April 2025.

Also last year, UTA purchased 20 new TRAX light-rail cars from Stadler. The cars are being manufactured in Utah and will feature accessible, level boarding, UTA officials said.

In 2026, UTA will begin construction on an S-Line extension with completion slated for 2027, authority officials said.

The TRAX network consists of three lines across 42.5 miles; the FrontRunner operates along an 83-mile corridor between Ogden and Provo; the S-Line operates along 2 miles between the Sugar House neighborhood in Salt Lake County to South Salt Lake City.
