The city of Edmonton, Alberta, will purchase eight additional high-floor light-rail vehicles (LRVs) from Hyundai Rotem Co. (HRC) to operate as part of the Edmonton Transit Service. The additional LRVs will support the city's Metro Line Northwest Phase 1 and Capital Line South Phase 1 expansion projects, city officials said in a press release.

The city awarded a contract to HRC for the purchase of 32 high-floor LRVs in February 2026. That contract included an option to purchase supplementary LRVs. This additional purchase brings the total order to 40.

The LRVs will replace the Siemens U2 LRVs that have served Edmonton for more than 45 years, city officials said. The design and manufacturing of the vehicles is scheduled to begin later this year; delivery is expected between 2029 and 2030.
