The District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) received 20 responses to its request for information (RFI) on the potential development of a local transportation system that would feature a priority streetcar system and buses.
The responses came from firms based in the United States, Spain, the United Kingdom, China and Japan, DDOT officials said in a prepared statement.
“This level of response is indicative of the broad interest and promising nature of the project,” said DDOT Director Terry Bellamy.
DDOT officials are considering the potential for a public-private partnership to develop the project. The RFI sought input on the design, construction, finance, maintenance and operation of a 22-mile priority streetcar system and operation of local bus service in the district.
Department review teams will review the submissions during the next 60 days. DDOT officials anticipate issuing a request for qualifications later this year.
