Beijink Hua-Tie Information Technology Development Co. inked a $26 million deal with Union Switch & Signal Inc. for an automatic train control system to be used on its Binhae New Development Area Rail Rapid Transit light-rail transit line.
The Binhae Rapid Transit system is a 31-mile double-track line connecting the urban district of Tianjin City with the Tianjin Economic-Development Area in eastern China. The current phase would add 22 stations along the alignment, on which 29 four-car trains would travel.
US&S’ system would include automatic train protection, train supervision functions and train operation using wayside signaling and control, and on-board vehicle control. Beijink Hua-Tie Information Technology Development would develop an operations control center system using US&S-designed software, used under a technology licensing agreement.
Service on the line is expected to begin in 2005.
