CTA to reopen Brown Line's Wellington station
advertisement
Tomorrow, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) will reopen Wellington station on the Brown Line, resuming service to the facility after a 16-month construction project associated with the line’s capacity expansion program.
CTA built a new stationhouse in the same location as the previous one at 945 W. Wellington Ave. A new auxiliary exit was constructed north of the station to provide more convenience to riders.
The authority also reconfigured the station’s platforms to accommodate eight-car trains and installed two elevators, accessible turnstiles, brighter lighting, new signs and a bike rack.
Wellington is the 16th of 18 Brown Line stations that will be reconstructed as part of the capacity expansion project. Although construction still is under way at the Belmont and Fullerton stations, trains continue to serve both facilities. Weekday ridership on the Brown Line averages more than 80,000.
