advertisement

RATP, the Paris transport authority, July 12 ordered 161 rail rapid transit cars from a consortium comprising Bombardier Transportation, Alstom Transport and Technicatome for a total $589 million.

For its $196 million share, Bombardier will manufacture 1,610 bogies, and supply 805 painted and insulated passenger cars fitted with windows and floors, and 322 complete driving cabs.

RATP plans to replace part of Paris’ existing rolling stock with the new five-car MF-2000-type rapid transit units, which will be 1.18 inches lower than their predecessor units to accommodate people with reduced mobility.

All production will take place at Bombardier’s Crespin, France, plant. Delivery is slated to take place between late 2003 and late 2014.
