On Oct. 14, Bombardier Transportation completed delivery of 34 Voyager and 44 tilting Super Voyager trains to England’s Virgin Trains, which plans to use the equipment on its CrossCounty network.
In December 1998, Virgin Trains awarded Bombardier the $1.6 billion contract to design, supply and maintain the trains through 2012, the life of the Virgin CrossCountry franchise. Of the total, $602 million was earmarked for the rolling stock and $1 billion for maintenance.
The Super Voyagers are the first tilting trains authorized to tilt in commercial service in England, according to a prepared statement.
