Blair shuffles cabinet duties, including railways oversight

The Rt. Hon. Tony Blair MP, re-elected Britain’s Prime Minister in early June, directed changes to Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions June 12, dividing the department in half.
Department for Transport, Local Government and the Regions (DTLR) will be led by The Rt. Hon. Stephen Byers, secretary of state. The Rt. Hon. Margaret Beckett was appointed to head a new department, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
Within DTLR, John Spellar MP will serve as minister of transport, supported by David Jamieson MP, who becomes parliamentary under secretary of state. Jamieson assumes responsibility for England’s railways, roads, road safety, London transport, Highways Agency and Driver and Vehicle Operators’ Agencies, vehicle safety and environment, aviation, shipping and ports, Maritime and Coastguard Agency, freight, European policy, and science and technology policy.
