APTA reveals 2025 Public Transportation Award winners, Hall of Fame inductees

The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) has honored 13 organizations and leaders with awards for their vision, leadership and commitment to public transportation. The association has also named six individuals to be inducted into the APTA hall of fame.

Awards are given to organizations and leaders in the public transit who have demonstrated leadership and whose accomplishments and innovations have greatly advanced public transportation, APTA officials said in a press release. The 2025 APTA awards will be presented at APTA's TRANSform conference to be held Sept. 14-17 in Boston.

Hall of fame inductees are: Frank DiGiacomo, Torrence, California (posthumous); Mark Donaghy, Petersburg, Kentucky; Jeanne Krieg, Antioch, California; Feysan Lodde, Dallas, Texas; William R. Mooney III, Chicago (posthumous); and Peter Varga, Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Transit-rail agencies that were recognized as outstanding agencies are the Utah Transit Authority in Salt Lake City and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority in Washington, D.C. WMATA was also recognized for its outstanding partnership with Kimley Horn and Foursquare Integrated Transportation Planning. 

APTA Innovation Award winners that provide rail service are the Metropolitan Transit Authority, New York City; Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District, Portland, Oregon; and Sound Transit, Seattle.
