Caltrain offers sneak peek at 20-year capital improvement program

Caltrain recently released a preview of Project 2025, the agency’s multi-billion-dollar capital improvement program.

Major projects include electrifying Caltrain’s corridor and replacing diesel locomotives with electric trains by 2012; improving technology and signaling equipment; opening the Dumbarton rail corridor between Menlo Park and Union City by 2012; adding track and crossovers; building grade separations in key areas; and improving the North Terminal in San Francisco and South Terminal in San Jose.

Agency officials will submit the final plan to the board by year’s end.
