Union Pacific Railroad plans to spend more than $13 million to bolster track in Kansas and Colorado.
A more than $7 million project calls for improving more than 36 miles of track between Russell and Hays, Kan., including a segment between Russell and Ellsworth, Kan. Work involves removing and installing rail, renewing surfaces at 63 grade crossings and replacing nearly 1,000 feet of rail in various curves.
A more than $6 million project calls for enhancing a more than 40-mile line between Bond and Dotsero, Colo. Crews will remove and install more than 47,000 ties, renew surfaces at 20 crossings and spread 19,400 tons of ballast.
Meanwhile, UP also announced it was named rail carrier of the year by ConAgra Mills for grain transportation service performance. The award recognizes UP’s quality of service logs, attention to on-time delivery and how aggressively the railroad helps the grain products shipper obtain new business.
