L.B. Foster Co. recently obtained a $3.3 million contract to provide about 51,000 direct-fixation fasteners for the Canada Line, an 11-mile light-rail line that will connect the city of Richmond, British Columbia, with Vancouver’s airport and downtown.
The $1.9 billion Canada Line project is being managed by Canada Line Rapid Transit Inc., a subsidiary of the Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority. The line is being designed, built and operated under a 35-year contract with InTransitBC, a joint venture comprising SNC-Lavalin, the investment Management Corp. of B.C., and the Caisse de Dépot et Placement du Québec.
The 16-station line is scheduled to open for service in late 2009.
