The American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) announced it will offer a revised and expanded Intermodal Design Seminar in conjunction with its annual conference and exhibition to be held in Chicago Sept. 16-19.
The seminar was redesigned by railroad personnel and industry consultants into two complementary sections: planning and engineering.
The Intermodal Design Planning Seminar will include an introduction to intermodal facilities from global perspectives; presentations on site selection and specifications, and simulations of new and existing facilities; and an overview of engineering. The seminar will conclude with a half-day tour of a Chicago intermodal facility.
The Intermodal Design Engineering Seminar will begin with a site tour that includes intermodal design planning students. The seminar then will provide an overview of planning and presentations on facility types and equipment; site arrangement and features; technology advancements; environmental and permitting; pavement design; and engineering lessons learned.
“This will be the first time these two seminars will be presented,” AREMA officials said in a press release, adding that the Intermodal Design Engineering Seminar last was held in 2009.
