The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) plans to begin modernizing six automated passenger-car washers.
During the next 18 months, WMATA plans to spend $6.3 million to redesign and replace tanks, piping and other equipment for washers at the Alexandria and West Falls Church yards. The authority will spend another $11.5 million to upgrade washers at four other rail yards as funding becomes available.
