Elgin, Joliet & Eastern grants BNSF trackage rights to Illinois line

Last month, Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway Co. (EJ&E) and Burlington Northern Santa Fe reached an agreement under which EJ&E will grant BNSF trackage rights to a 19-mile line between Joliet and Eola, Ill.
EJ&E recently filed an exemption notice with Surface Transportation Board seeking approval for the transaction.
The trackage rights would enable BNSF to operate trains more efficiently, according to the STB filing.
The 186-mile regional and Class I expect to complete the transaction by month's end.
