Rail News: Labor
Twice honored as one of Working Mother magazine's "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers," Union Pacific Railroad is making a case to retain its ranking. Yesterday, the Class I broke ground on a $5 million, 20,000-square-foot child development center near the railroad's headquarters in Omaha, Neb.
Designed to accommodate 200 children, the center will include railroad imagery throughout the facility, vaulted ceilings, centrally located and age-specific classrooms surrounded by oversized hallways, and a Federal Emergency Management Agency-rated storm shelter.
Bright Horizons Family Solutions will manage the center, which is scheduled for completion in spring 2005.
"In recent years, workplace cultures have changed to better balance the personal and professional lives of employees," said UP Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dick Davidson in a prepared statement. "We hope to supply peace of mind for our working parents while providing children with a high-quality early education facility."
