Rail carriers, signalmen reach tentative labor agreement

The National Carriers Conference Committee (NCCC) yesterday announced it has secured a national tentative agreement with the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen (BRS).

The agreement, which is still subject to ratification, proposes wage increases of 18.8% over five years, enhancements to health and welfare benefits with no increase to employee contribution rate, and access to more paid vacation time for employees earlier in their careers, NCCC officials said in a press release.

Upon ratification, half of union-represented employees at railroads participating in national handling will be covered by a ratified collective bargaining agreement.

The 2025 bargaining round agreements follow an industry pattern of wage increases that on average will raise annual wages to $135,000 and average total compensation to $190,000, NCCC officials said.

The NCCC is the negotiating committee under the National Railway Labor Conference, the association representing all U.S. Class Is and many smaller freight and passenger lines.
