CN and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) System Council 11 yesterday announced that union members ratified a new four-year agreement covering 700 signals and communications employees in Canada.
Retroactive to Jan. 1, the pact includes wage increases and improvements to benefits. The agreement was negotiated before the former contract expired in December.
"The early negotiation of the agreement and its subsequent ratification reflect a positive working relationship between the parties and an interest in reaching a settlement that benefits both CN and the IBEW membership," said CN President and Chief Executive Officer Claude Mongeau in a prepared statement.
The pact will improve members' quality of life, said Brian Strong, senior general chairman for the IBEW council.
