The National Carriers' Conference Committee (NCCC) and the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen (BRS) have reached a tentative national agreement that follows the industry pattern of contracts ratified by members of 11 other unions.
The NCCC is the bargaining arm of the National Railway Labor Conference (NRLC), which represents all U.S. Class Is and many smaller passenger and freight railroads. The NCCC negotiates labor contracts with 12 rail unions on behalf of its members.
Subject to ratification by BRS members, the tentative five-year agreement calls for wage increases of 18.8%, enhancements to health and welfare benefits with no increase to employee contribution rates and access to more paid vacation time for employees earlier in their careers, NCCC officials said in a press release.
The agreement runs through Dec. 31, 2029, and would raise average annual wages to $135,000 and average total compensation to $190,000.
"With this agreement, every union-represented freight railroad employee in National Handling will have a contract that delivers real wage growth, strong benefits and certainty through the end of the decade," said Jeff Rodgers, chair of the NRLC and the NCCC.
