The Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) has selected the Port of Long Beach (POLB) as the recipient of its inaugural Intermodal Innovation Award.

The award honors a for-profit business, nonprofit organization, educational institution or government agency that has made a significant and measurable contribution to the advancement of the intermodal freight transportation industry, IANA officials said in a press release.

"The Intermodal Innovation Award recognizes organizations that don't simply respond to change—they help create it," said Anne Reinke, president and CEO of IANA.

POLB was selected for its leadership in strengthening the nation's intermodal freight network through strategic infrastructure investment, digital innovation, operational excellence, environmental stewardship and collaboration across the supply chain, officials said.

"The [port] has demonstrated that innovation is not a single project or technology, but a sustained commitment to improving how freight moves," Reinke added. "Their work is creating lasting benefits for shippers, carriers, ports and supply chain partners across North America, making them a fitting inaugural recipient of this award.”

POLB will be recognized during Intermodal EXPO, to be held September 14–16, 2026, in Long Beach, California.
