Oregon lawmakers OK $100M for Pacific Coast port project

The Oregon Legislature has approved $100 million in funding for the Pacific Coast Intermodal Port, a public-private project that will create a state-of-the-art container terminal at the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay, port officials announced Monday.
The project will establish a modern, ship-to-rail container terminal that connects southwest Oregon to international markets. Cargo will move on the Coos Bay Rail Line to Midwest markets via a Union Pacific Railroad connection in Eugene, Oregon, port officials said in a press release.
The public-private partnership already is supported by $58 million in federal funding through U.S. Department of Transportation grant programs.
The intermodal port will be the first new container terminal developed on the U.S. West Coast in decades, contributing to increased shipping capacity and offering an additional option for regional and international trade, Coos Bay port officials said.
The project is expected to support a range of industries, including agriculture in the Willamette Valley, manufacturing in Columbia Gorge and export operations throughout the western United States.
