LA Port signs 30-year extension with Yusen Terminals

The Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners has approved a 30-year extension of its lease to Yusen Terminals, securing the longtime Port of Los Angeles marine terminal operator through 2056.

Under the approved lease extension, Yusen Terminals will invest an additional $200 million in zero-emission equipment over the coming years, Port L.A. officials said in a press release. The terminal currently operates a range of zero-emission and hydrogen fuel-cell equipment, including electric top handlers, forklifts and yard tractors.

“We greatly value our longstanding partnership with Yusen Terminals and the role they play in the success of our Port,” said Port of L.A. Executive Director Gene Seroka. “Their commitment to excellence and willingness to work closely with us have been invaluable, especially in advancing our clean air initiatives. When we called on terminals to test and incorporate zero-emission equipment, Yusen Terminals immediately stepped up.”

Yusen Terminals is owned by Ocean Network Express (ONE) and has operated at the port since 1991. Its services at the port include stevedoring, terminal operations and specialized cargo handling.

“This agreement gives us the long-term certainty to continue investing in our terminal, our people and new technology while providing the reliable service our customers expect,” said Yusen Terminals president and CEO Alan McCorkle. “We look forward to building on our partnership with the port for decades to come.”

The Port of L.A. is served by Pacific Harbor Line, which provides on-dock rail service to the port's marine terminals and interchanges with BNSF Railway and Union Pacific Railroad.
