Rail News: Intermodal
The University of Denver recently presented Hub Group Inc. founder and Chairman Phillip Yeager an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree to recognize his achievements in the intermodal transportation industry and support of the college’s Intermodal Transportation Institute (ITI).
Yeager played a key role in developing ITI — which was formed in 1997 — and the institute’s graduate program. In 1999, he was among the first to participate in the Intermodal Founding Fathers of North America Conference, which established ITI’s intermodal oral history program.
“The ITI board recognized early in its history that there are a few important individuals who helped establish the intermodal freight industry and who have participated in supporting ITI as an institute dedicated to educating the next generation of transportation leaders,” said ITI Chairman Tom Finkbiner — who recently was named president of Pacer Stacktrain — in a prepared statement. “Phil Yeager is one of those people.”
In 1971, Yeager founded the Hub Group, currently North America’s largest intermodal marketing company with 30 offices in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
