GCT kicks off Deltaport expansion project at Port Metro Vancouver

GCT Global Container Terminals Inc. announced today that it has broken ground on its GCT Deltaport Intermodal Yard Reconfiguration Project at British Columbia's Port Metro Vancouver.

The expansion ensures projected carrier rail demand is met for Canadian and United States markets without impacts to local road traffic, GCT officials said in a press release.

Additionally, the densification project will equip GCT Deltaport to handle increased volumes from the largest transpacific mega vessels calling the facility.

GCT officials anticipate the expansion will increase rail handling capacity by more than 50 percent at the port, which is served by CN and Canadian Pacific.

"Our carrier customers and beneficial cargo owners were early adopters of the strong connectivity we provide through GCT Deltaport," said JJ Ruest, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at CN. "Together, this project demonstrates the facility has the fluidity to expedite our customers' cargo while giving them room to grow."

In Progressive Railroading's October cover story, Ruest spoke in greater detail about CN's relationships with several North American port and terminal operators.
