North Carolina DOT secures TIGER grant for Raleigh Union Station

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) recently received a $21 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the Raleigh Union Station project.

The grant will help fund the first phase of construction for the multimodal transit center along the North Carolina Railroad corridor. The station will be a major stop along the proposed Southeast high-speed rail corridor, which eventually will span from Washington, D.C., to Atlanta.

NCDOT is upgrading the corridor using state dollars and more than $500 million in High-Speed Intercity Passenger Rail program funds. The improvements will enable the state to offer expanded intercity- and commuter-rail services, better freight connections, and local and intercity bus service.
