U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy this week announced the U.S. Department of Transportation approved an additional 76 federal transportation grants worth $607 million that previously had been announced by the Biden administration.
The grants approved include a $59 million grant issued through the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) program to Conrail for the second phase of the Point-No-Point Bridge replacement project.
The 76 grants are among the 3,200 projects that the Biden administration announced funding for but the grant agreements had not yet been obligated before the Jan. 20 transition to the Trump administration.
To receive the funding, grant agreements have to be reached between USDOT and grant recipients. Since taking office, Duffy and the USDOT have approved a total of 405 grants valued at $5 billion or roughly 13% of the grant-approval backlog, according to a department press release.
Before obligating the funding, the Duffy-led USDOT is reviewing the grants for what it says are "burdensome requirements" related to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), social justice or greenhouse gas emission reporting requirements.
A more detailed breakdown of each grant can be found here.
