U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy yesterday outlined actions taken at the U.S. Department of Transportation during the first 100 days of President Donald Trump's administration.
According to a USDOT press release, Duffy has:
• started to clear the backlog of 3,200 grant agreements "left behind" by the Biden administration;
• ordered the department to review federal grants, focusing on "real" infrastructure and safety, and repealing Biden-era policies on diversity equity and inclusion (DEI) and climate change;
• directed the secretarial officers and heads of operating administrations to identify and eliminate all Biden-era programs, activities, rules and orders that promote climate change activism, DEI initiatives, racial equity, gender identity policies, environmental justice and other "partisan" objectives;
• launched an investigation into California’s high-speed rail project and will determine whether the project will continue to receive billions in federal funding;
• taken steps to terminate the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's congestion tolling program in Manhattan;
• announced that the FRA and Amtrak have agreed to a revised scope for a planned rehabilitation of the Dock Bridge over the Passaic River in New Jersey, reducing the project's cost by $140 million; and
• terminated the $63.9 million grant awarded to fund the Amtrak Texas High-Speed Rail Corridor project.
"The Department of Transportation is focused on its core mission of safety and efficiency. Under this administration, America is building again — forging a future with projects built to last," Duffy said in the press release.
