CSX to serve future Owens Corning plant in Alabama

The CSX Select Site program recently assisted Owens Corning in finding the location for its future 250,000-square-foot shingle manufacturing facility in Prattville, Alabama.

Owens Corning’s investment is expected to create 100 skilled manufacturing jobs in Prattville, strengthening the local economy and expanding the railroad’s footprint in the region, CSX officials said in a press release.

Construction is expected to start in early 2026, with production beginning in 2027, according to an Owens Corning press release.

The Prattville facility will operate a four-wide laminator capable of producing around 6 million squares of laminate shingles per year. The additional capacity will be used to manufacture high-performing products, Owens Corning officials said.

The CSX Select Site program streamlines the process for companies looking to locate and develop rail-served properties. Sites are pre-certified after comprehensive evaluations, ensuring they are shovel-ready with reliable infrastructure, rail access, utility and local workforce availability.

“Our CSX industrial development team helped quickly identify a site that met Owens Corning’s needs for infrastructure, rail access, utilities and a skilled workforce,” said CSX Vice President of Business Development Christina Bottomley.
