CSX installing additional power-operated switches at Radnor Yard

The new switches will supplement power-operated switches already in place and create potential to expand the technology to other areas of the yard, CSX officials said.

CSX is installing additional power-operated switches across 13 tracks and eight inside crossovers at its Radnor Yard in Nashville, Tennessee.

As part of a 2026 capital improvement project, engineering crews are replacing hand-operated switches on the north end of the receiving yard with 12 new electric switches that can be controlled directly by the yardmaster. The new switches will supplement power-operated switches already in place and create potential to expand the technology to other areas of the yard, CSX officials said in a news release.

Replacement work will continue through early 2027, at which point 37 switches at Radnor Yard will be powered. The use of electric switches reduces manual tasks, improves operational control and creates a safer work environment, CSX officials said.

CSX also created a short video about the switch replacement project.
