CSX has expanded the capabilities of its Public Safety Coordination Center (PSCC), allowing callers to securely share real-time location information during emergencies.
The PSCC connects the Class I to public safety agencies to coordinate response efforts when incidents are reported by employees, customers or members of the community. One of the greatest challenges PSCC operators face when taking emergency calls is determining callers' exact locations, CSX officials said in a press release.
The technology upgrade enables PSCC operators to identify a caller’s location and send a secure link that allows live video sharing from the scene. Operators can also replay call recordings, translate multiple languages and verify critical information while a call is still in progress, officials said.
The new capabilities provide a clearer understanding of unfolding situations, help accelerate response times, and provide emergency responders with better situational awareness and more accurate information.
CSX is the first railroad to deploy this type of system, CSX officials said.
“We’re a leader in this space, and this technology truly changes how we respond,” said Chris Bennett, CSX's director of public safety and infrastructure protection. “When we can immediately see where someone is and what they’re seeing, we eliminate guesswork, reduce stress for our operators, and enable faster, safer emergency response across the CSX network.”
