Select Sands seeks to advance frac sand project in Arkansas
Select Sands Corp. has launched a drilling program at its Sandtown frac sand property in northeast Arkansas, the company announced late last week.
Located 3.1 miles from a highway and 14.7 miles from a rail system, the property is in the St. Peter sandstone formation, which is a source of Northern White frac sand that's used in major oil and gas plays, Select Sands officials said in a press release.
The company also announced it appointed Zigurds Vitols to its board to replace Leonard Jaroszuk, who resigned. Vitols previously served as president of Martin Marietta Material Inc.'s Mid-South Division and northeast regional manager for W.R. GRACE & Co. He will help advance the frac sand project in Arkansas, said Select Sands President and Chief Executive Officer Rasool Mohammad.
"Zig will assist in planning the company's rail distribution network as per his previous experience with the Union Pacific, Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Kansas City Southern railroads," Mohammad said.
