CPKC last week commemorated the first rail shipment from the new Bienville Lumber Co. sawmill in Taylor, Louisiana.
A joint venture between Canada-based Tolko Industries and U.S.-based Hunt Forest Products LLC, the sawmill shipped seven loaded rail cars via CPKC to markets across the U.S. Midwest, CPKC officials said in a social media post.
CPKC President and CEO Keith Creel joined Tolko President and CEO Pino Pucci and Hunt, Guillot and Associates Chair Trott Hunt to mark the departure of the rail cars and the start of the Class I's newest strategic shipper relationship.
"Strategic rail access will take trucks off the road and reflects a shared commitment to growth, expanding market opportunities and building a long-term collaboration," CPKC officials said.
The Beinville facility is Tolko Industries and Hunt Forest Products' second collaboration. The companies opened their first joint sawmill in 2019 in LaSalle Parish, Louisiana, according to an online article from the Louisiana Forestry Association.
