CN continues major rehab work on Quebec Bridge
CN will perform about $7 million (in Canadian dollars) worth of work this year on the Quebec Bridge as part of a $95 million, 10-year program to rehabilitate the structure to ensure its long-term viability, the Class I announced yesterday.
This year's work brings CN's total investment in the bridge since 2013 to $17 million. The work is part of a major program that CN and the Ministry of Transport of Quebec agreed upon in 2013 following a bridge inspection by the engineering firm Roche. The agreement reflects the bridge's dual purpose, and takes into account that the bridge will mainly be used for road traffic, according to a CN press release.
"CN has been investing heavily in the Quebec Bridge for over a century to extend its life even though it has been used less and less for rail traffic," said CN President and Chief Executive Officer Claude Mongeau.
