The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) has approved safety upgrades at a grade crossing in Indian Hill.
Indiana & Ohio Railway Co. (IORY) will install flashing lights and gates at the Kugler Road crossing. The short line must complete the work by Feb. 13, 2027.
Owned by Genesee & Wyoming Inc., IORY operates more than 500 miles of track and interchanges with eight railroads, including CN, CSX, Norfolk Southern Railway and the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway.
Federal funds will cover $408,631 of the crossing project’s cost.
PUCO is responsible for evaluating the state’s public crossings to determine the need for installing active warning devices. Since the commission began crossing safety evaluations more than 30 years ago, the annual number of train-motor vehicle accidents in Ohio has decreased significantly.
