Crews have started construction on four underground subway stations on Toronto's Eglinton Crosstown West Extension, Metrolinx officials announced July 13.

Once completed, the subway and elevated passenger-rail extension will connect with Line 5 Eglinton at Mount Dennis Station, extending the line by 5.7 miles. The finished line will run from Scarborough through downtown Toronto and into Mississauga.

Excavation has begun for the four stations at the Martin Grove, Kipling, Islington and Royal York intersections; the finished extension will also include two elevated-rail stations at Scarlett Road and Jane Street and an open-air station at Renforth Drive, Metrolinx officials said.
