Illinois commission approves grade crossing projects in two counties

The Illinois Commerce Commission this week approved two grade crossing improvement projects in Effingham and Kendall counties.
In Effingham County, CSX will install new automatic warning devices at the Wabash Avenue crossing in Effingham, commission officials said in a press release. The estimated cost is $623,575, with the state funding 95% of that cost through Illinois' Grade Crossing Protection Fund.
In Kendall County, Illinois Railway LLC will install new automatic warning devices at a crossing at North and Jackson streets in Oswego. The estimated cost is $567,129, with the state also covering 95%.
Both railroads will pay the remaining project and future maintenance costs. The work for both crossings is expected to be completed in 12 months.
