Rail News: Communication and Signal
CSX Transportation recently placed an order with 10East Corp. to equip all signal maintainers and construction workers with the supplier's mobile electronic testing, inspection, text messaging and scheduling system.
In late 2002, more than 325 CSXT signal maintainers and several managers began testing the system, a handheld device designed for CSXT that enables maintainers to input real-time signal-inspection and test data, and managers to monitor compliance with Federal Railroad Administration requirements. After the railroad receives the order, 750 additional signal maintainers and construction workers will begin using the devices.
10East currently is developing other signal-related applications for CSXT's device, including an asset/configuration management system component designed to meet upcoming FRA requirements.
"We are also working on new applications for a number of other railroad and transit customers, covering other rail industry venues, and will be announcing them during the coming months," said 10East Vice President Mike Wilson in a prepared statement.
The supplier also markets RAILDOCS™, a Web-based daily operating management system designed for freight railroads, transit agencies and light-rail systems.
For more information on the development of CSXT's device, see page 28 of Progressive Railroading's September 2003 issue.
