On June 20, the Alameda Corridor-East Construction Authority (ACE) received six bids for the main construction portion of the San Gabriel Trench grade separation project in San Gabriel, Calif.

The low bidder is Walsh Construction Co. at $172.6 million. The other bidders were Atkinson Contractors L.P. at $175.8 million; Flatiron/Pulice Joint Venture at $185.9 million; Shimmick Construction Co./Obayashi Corp. Joint Venture at $203.6 million; Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Inc. at $230.5 million; and Skanska-Rados-Herzog Joint Venture at $235.6 million.

Estimated to cost $498.5 million in total, the San Gabriel project calls for constructing a 2.2-mile trench to lower a 1.4-mile section of Union Pacific Railroad’s track through the city of San Gabriel. In addition, bridges will be built at four locations.

The six bids are subject to further review and officials results will be released after all bid evaluations are completed, ACE officials said in a bid opening notice.

Meanwhile, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) plans to hold a public meeting July 10 in Maricopa regarding a study on a proposed grade separation at a UP/State Route 347 grade crossing.

In conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration and city of Maricopa, the department is initiating the study as part of an effort to improve safety, access, capacity and traffic operations in Maricopa through 2040, ADOT officials said in a meeting notice.

The study will evaluate a potential underpass or overpass to replace the existing grade crossing.
