Amtrak renames control center after Szabo

Yesterday, Amtrak renamed its Chicago control center in honor of former Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) leader Joseph Szabo.

The dispatching office, situated in Chicago's Union Station, was rededicated as the Joseph C. Szabo Chicago Control Center.

Serving on the FRA from 2009 to 2015, Szabo was the agency's 12th and second-longest serving administrator. He stepped down from his position on Jan. 9 and joined the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning as a senior fellow.

Szabo spoke with Progressive Railroading about the switch in January.
