• Wood crosstie supplier Gross & Janes Co. announced plans to move its headquarters from Fenton to Kirkwood, Mo. On Aug. 1, the company will begin leasing space at building across the street from the Kirkwood train depot. The new space “gives us room to grow, as our business and employment base are on track to increase by 20 percent this year,” said Gross & Janes President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Pourney in a prepared statement. Founded in 1920, the company operates processing facilities in Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi and Texas.
• Parsons won a contract from Cleshar Contract Services Ltd., a London-based civil contracting firm, to perform work associated with Docklands Light Railway’s new depot offices. Parsons will provide eletromagnetic compatability consulting services to ensure new equipment doesn’t affect the depot’s existing systems. Cleshar Contract Services is building new offices for Docklands Light Railway in Beckton as part of an ongoing expansion that’s slated for completion in time for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.
• INIT Innovations in Transportation Inc. has obtained a contract from the Sacramento Area Council of Governments to install a multi-agency electronic fare collection system for more than 80 rail station platforms and more than 500 buses. The company will implement smart card passenger terminals, and add fare machines, GPS-enabled onboard computers, customer service workstations, retail sales terminals and a back-office fare management system for the council’s new “Connect” transit card system.
• Engineering firm TranSystems has appointed William Nowak to lead the industrial engineering/time study area for the company’s management and supply chain consulting group. He has more than 15 years of experience in the supply chain industry. TranSystems also named Chaiyong Thanasriphakdeekun a consultant team leader and practice area leader for logistics network analysis in the management and supply chain consulting group. He has more than 12 years of experience in the supply chain industry.
