OmniTRAX Inc. has been named the exclusive switching partner for Tata Chemicals' soda ash Wyoming mine, one of the largest of such mines in North America.

Effective Aug. 1, the new service agreement calls for providing the Green River mine dedicated switching and track service, with projected annual movement of 2.7 million tons, according to an OmniTRAX press release. Green River is home to one of the world’s largest reserves of trona ore.

Also known as sodium carbonate, soda ash is a natural compound known for its consistent quality and purity. Soda ash is a key raw material used across glass manufacturing, detergents, chemicals and textiles, OmniTRAX officials said.

"Tata Chemical is one of the largest soda ash producers in the world, and we are honored that they have entrusted OmniTRAX to serve their largest domestic mine," said OmniTRAX President and COO Sergio Sabatini.

Union Pacific Railroad will work with OmniTRAX to provide rail service to Green River's soda ash facilities, said Kenny Rocker, UP's executive vice president of marketing and sales, in the press release.
