Rail News: Short Lines & Regionals
The Belt Railway of Chicago (BRC) recently contracted Digital Concepts Inc. to install its Digital Traffic ControlTM dispatching system at the railroad's Bedford Park, Ill., switching yard.
The system will include DigiNetTM services designed to enable multiple railroads' dispatchers and managers to exchange real-time operational data and graphical screen images.
"With the volume of freight traffic moving through the Chicago terminal, system reliability and seamless connectivity of operating information are big requirements for us and our customers," said BRC President Patrick O'Brien in a prepared statement.
Considered the largest U.S. intermediate switching terminal railroad, BRC daily dispatches more than 8,400 rail cars on 30 miles of mainlines and 300 miles of yard track. The railroad interchanges with the six largest Class Is, which serve the Chicago Switching District.
