• GE Transportation and Turkish locomotive supplier Tulomsas established a strategic relationship under which the parties will collaborate to market GE’s PowerHaul™ locomotives in Turkey for the European, Middle East and North African markets. The locomotives feature the 16-cylinder PowerHaul engine, which is designed to reduce fuel usage up to 9 percent compared with conventional fleet averages.
• Ansaldo STS USA recently helped the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) restore underground transit lines after severe flooding in the baggage area of Terminal 2 at O'Hare International Airport short-circuited the third rail and caused a small fire. Ansaldo obtained a $2 million contract to serve as the prime contractor. The company replaced the motors in switch machines and train stops, as well as fire-damaged wiring cables and power supplies. Ansaldo will continue to work with the CTA to replace 14 switch machines and an operations console, which were damaged by the fire.
• The Timken Co. has landed on Forbes “Platinum 400” list for the fourth time. The magazine annually compiles a list of the best big companies. Forbes rated Timken’s financial condition as "strong.” The bearing suppliers’ balance sheet, sales and earnings growth were positive factors, contributing to Timken’s inclusion on the list, the magazine said.
