UPS receives more recognition as diverse employer

During the past few years, Class I human resource executives have placed more emphasis on diversity in their hiring and promotion practices. But they might want to consult with execs from their railroad's largest intermodal customer to gain a few more tips.

For the sixth-straight year, United Parcel Service is ranked among the "50 Best Companies for Minorities" in Fortune magazine's annual survey. UPS climbed three spots from No. 26 to No. 23.

The survey ranks corporations based on their level of commitment in hiring, promoting and retaining a diverse pool of employees, encouraging supplier diversity and supporting minority organizations.

Earlier this year, UPS received similar recognition, including DiversityInc magazine's No. 32 ranking in the "Top 50 Companies for Diversity," Hispanic magazine's No. 7 ranking in the "Top 10 Companies for Latinos," and the Women's Business Enterprise National Council's honor as one of America's "Elite 11" corporations for women business enterprises.
