Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority (aka Sound Transit) recently awarded Northlink Transit Partners Joint Venture a $38.9 million contract for the final design of the 3.15-mile University Link light-rail extension, which will run from downtown Seattle to the University of Washington.

Northlink Transit Partners comprises Earth Tech, HNTB Corp. and Jacobs Associates Engineers/Consultants.

The project, which includes two rail stations and a tunnel that travels under the Lake Washington Ship Canal, is expected to take two years to complete, according to an Earth Tech press release. Construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2008 with service starting in 2016.
