SEPTA expects to obtain additional FY2005 funds

The Pennsylvania general assembly recently proposed providing an additional $110 million for state transit agencies in fiscal-year 2005, according to Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA).

SEPTA officials expect to receive about $36 million in additional funds — leaving them $26 million short of the $62 million still needed to balance the budget.

The authority plans to continue analyzing its contingency plan and the proposed legislation, and will alter its plan based on final legislation. The current contingency plan includes increasing fares, cutting service 20 percent system-wide, canceling all weekend service and eliminating 1,400 jobs.
