The Port of Savannah moved about 4.7 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) since the start of fiscal-year 2026, which began in July 2025. Through April, the year's total marks a 2.5% decrease from volume in FY25, so far, according to a press release from the Georgia Ports Authority
In April, the port handled 443,650 TEUs, down 14% from 515,500 in April 2025. The 2025 figure was the port’s busiest April on record, due largely to importers front loading cargo in advance of the imposition of broad tariffs by the Trump administration, GPA officials said.
“Our customers are managing through a softer market with higher operating costs,” said Georgia Ports President and CEO Griff Lynch in a press release. “The Georgia Ports Authority remains focused on delivering capacity for the longer term so when the market changes we are ready to seamlessly absorb their growth.”
With 2025 seen as an outlier, GPA’s 10-year forecast predicts 54% traffic growth. To manage the anticipated increase in vessel size and cargo volumes, a $5 billion investment plan will add five new container berths in Savannah as well as improvements to the Port of Brunswick, including a new $100 million roll-on/roll-off berth, improvements to outdoor storage for vehicles, dredging and other harbor modifications.
In FY26 through April, the port of Brunswick logged 639,574 ro-ro units, a 11.8% decrease over the same period in FY25. In April alone, the port handled 64,305 ro-ro units, up 2% from April 2025.
