On June 23, Middletown and New Jersey Railway Co. Inc. (M&NJ) co-founder Pierre "Pete" Rasmussen died in his home in Middletown, N.Y., according to the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association. He was 80.

Rasmussen began his railroad career in 1946 after serving in the military during World War II. He worked for several railroads before co-founding M&NJ in the early 1960s with two partners.

Rasmussen served as M&NJ president and general manager for many years. His surviving son Pete Rasmussen Jr. now manages the 15-mile short line.

Rasmussen also is survived by his wife Lucy, a daughter and second son, five stepchildren, 20 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties Inc., 800 Stony Brooke Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
